Aleksandra's Note:
I know that saving the lives of human beings when it comes to natural disasters and manmade catastrophes is considered the priority. Still, it is a great relief and soothing to the soul to know that even when faced with supreme hardships and tough choices, human beings do not forget the animals who for so many are so dear to the heart.
In this time of great travail for the Serbs in the homeland, it is life-affirming to know that the Serbians are looking out for the animals that so desperately need human help to survive.
History has proven, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that no matter what befalls them, the Serbians are Survivors. They are tough people with big hearts.
Thank you for the care and attention that has been given to the four-legged creatures among you. For those creatures, you will always be heroes.
Sincerely,
Aleksandra Rebic

Mileta Petkovic, a Serb living in the "safe" area of Belgrade at the time of the massive flooding that has befallen his country of Serbia, didn't hesitate to volunteer his strength, energy, and resources to saving as many people and animals as he could. Here, he makes a new friend, a collie who he found shaking out of fear, stranded by the flood waters that ravaged Obrenovac, a municipality some 30 kilometers south of Belgrade and one of the areas that has been devastated by the flooding in the Balkans. Mileta saved this beautiful creature's life.
