Aleksandra's Note: The pivotal Battle of Kumanovo was fought between the Serbs and the Turks at the end of October 1912 during the First Balkan War. Kumanovo was one of the battles that succeeded in removing the Ottoman Turks from the Balkans after centuries of Islamic occupation. The Battle of Kumanovo also resulted in the Serbs getting back their sacred Kosovo after 500 years of Turkish rule and is therefore one of those battles that will remain forever a highlight of Christian Serb history. Marking the 100th anniversary of the victory at Kumanovo was conducted at Zebrnjak in Macedonia on October 28, 2012. The delegation from Serbia was led by Serbian president Tomislav Nikolic and the honor of remembering the heroes of Kumanovo was shared with Serbian children from Macedonia who participated in the special commemoration. It is important, especially in this day and age, that the children of a nation and a people know their history and honor those aspects of it that reflect the best in mankind. On Zebrnjak in Macedonia, on October 28, 2012, this obligation was fulfilled in a way that warms the heart and gives hope for the future.
Sincerely,
Aleksandra Rebic
